Monitoring Hybrid and String Inverter
In this article, we explain how to optimally set up the monitoring of a hybrid and a string inverter.
If you own both a hybrid and a string inverter and aim for comprehensive monitoring, an additional smart meter (Eastron Modbus ID:2) is required for the string inverter.
Note: A second smart meter must be purchased separately, as it is not included with the string inverter.
Settings on the Hybrid Inverter:
To set up monitoring correctly, please follow these steps on the hybrid inverter:
- Navigate to: Advanced Settings > Storage Energy Set > Meter Set > Meter Placement > Grid + PV Inverter.
Once this setting is activated, an additional generator will appear in the Solis Cloud, showing the power output of the string inverter. This overview displays the combined power curve and energy values of both the hybrid and the string inverters.
Here is how it looks in the Solis Cloud overview:
Advantages of This Monitoring Method:
- No additional data logger required: This method allows monitoring of both inverters without the need for an additional data logger.
Alternative: Separate monitoring of the inverters
If you wish to monitor the inverters separately in order to view their respective parameters or performance values individually, a second data logger is needed.
The following functions are possible in this configuration:
- Household consumption is displayed correctly because the hybrid is made aware of the additional generator power from the string inverter, enabling the hybrid to accurately calculate, display, and log the household consumption in the Soliscloud.
- Energy usage: Excess solar energy is stored in the battery rather than being fed into the grid.
- PV inverter monitoring: Monitoring of voltages, currents, temperatures, and faults of the PV inverter.
- Hybrid inverter monitoring: Monitoring of grid import, export, generation (hybrid), charge and discharge processes, temperatures, faults, etc.
Limitations of This Method:
- Export Limitation: Export limitation is not available, as only one of the inverters can be limited. The other inverter will continue to export since it is not recognized.
Recommendation
If you still decide to set up such a system, Solis recommends installing a data logger in both devices and creating two separate systems in the Solis Cloud.
