SolisCloud Monitoring Platform and Data Logger Security

For a detailed technical breakdown of these security measures, please refer to the attached “SolisCloud Monitoring Platform and Data Logger Security” document. (bottom of article)

Short Overview

The SolisCloud Monitoring Platform is a centralized cloud solution designed to monitor, manage, and optimize photovoltaic (PV) power plants at scale. Given the distributed and mission‑critical nature of renewable energy infrastructure, SolisCloud has been built with security as a core design principle, ensuring the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of system data from the device level through to the cloud.

The platform follows a defense‑in‑depth security architecture, combining technical, operational, and organizational controls to protect users, devices, and data throughout the entire lifecycle of operation.

Key Security Highlights

  • End‑to‑End Data Protection
All communication between Solis data loggers (Wi‑Fi, LAN, and 4G) and the cloud platform is protected using TLS/SSL encryption, preventing interception or tampering during data transmission. Data is also securely stored in ISO 27001–certified data centers located in Frankfurt, Germany, ensuring high availability and regulatory compliance.

  • Unique Device Identity & Secure Binding
Each data logger is manufactured with a unique cryptographic key, following a strict “one device, one key” principle. Devices must be explicitly bound to their serial number on the platform, preventing unauthorized hardware from accessing the system.

  • Strong Access Control & User Management
SolisCloud employs multi‑factor authentication (MFA) and role‑based access control (RBAC) to ensure that users only have access to the functions and data relevant to their role. Multi‑level organizational structures enable secure data isolation for installers, asset owners, and large enterprise groups.

  • Continuous Monitoring & Auditability
All critical actions—including logins, configuration changes, and device control commands—are fully logged. Real‑time intelligent alerts notify operators of abnormal behavior such as offline devices, suspicious logins, or sudden drops in energy production, enabling fast incident response.

  • Proactive Infrastructure & Network Security
SolisCloud data centers are protected by firewalls, intrusion detection systems (IDS), and regular third‑party penetration testing. These proactive measures help identify and mitigate potential vulnerabilities before they can be exploited.

  • Privacy‑by‑Design & Regulatory Compliance
The platform adheres to GDPR principles, including data minimization and user rights for access, correction, and deletion. SolisCloud and its products comply with major international and regional standards, including ISO 27001, EN 18031, EN 303645, and the UK PSTI regulation, demonstrating alignment with modern IoT and product security requirements.

Built for Secure, Scalable Solar Operations

By integrating encryption, device‑level isolation, granular access control, continuous auditing, and internationally recognized certifications, SolisCloud delivers a robust and future‑proof security framework tailored to the needs of modern solar power plants. This approach not only protects sensitive operational data but also supports safe remote maintenance, regulatory readiness, and long‑term platform reliability.
