How to Reset a Low Voltage Pylontech Battery: A Step-by-Step Guide

Pylontech batteries are widely recognized for their reliability and efficiency in solar energy storage systems. However, there may be times when a reset is required to resolve communication errors, restore functionality, or troubleshoot unexpected issues. Resetting a Pylontech battery is straightforward and can be done safely by following these steps.

When Should You Reset a Pylontech Battery?

You may need to reset your Pylontech battery if you experience any of the following issues:

  • The inverter does not detect the battery.

  • The battery LED indicators show unusual behavior (e.g., no lights or blinking error codes).

  • The battery does not charge or discharge properly.

  • Communication issues between the inverter and battery persist after checking cables and settings.

  • The system experiences unexpected shutdowns or failures.

Reset Procedure for Pylontech Batteries

Follow these steps to safely reset your Pylontech battery:

Step 1: Turn Off the Inverter and Battery Rocker Switches (Power Switch)

  • Power down the inverter before turning off the battery to prevent unexpected voltage spikes or errors.

  • Locate the rocker switches on the left-hand side of each battery module.

  • Turn OFF all the switches to power down the battery modules.

  • Ensure that all batteries in the stack are switched off.

Step 2: Wait and Turn On All Rocker Switches

  • Wait 10–20 seconds to allow the system to fully switch off.

  • Turn ON all the rocker switches to reinitialize the battery stack.

Step 3: Press and Hold the SW Button

  • Identify the master battery in your stack. This is the battery connected to the inverter via the CAN cable.

  • Locate the small red SW button on the front of this master battery.

  • Press and HOLD the button for one second until all LEDs turn on.

  • Observe the battery LEDs—successful resets typically restore normal LED patterns.

  • In case of correct reset you do not need to press SW button on other batteries, they will be turned on automatically by the master battery.

Troubleshooting Tips if the Reset Fails

If the reset does not resolve the issue, try the following additional steps:

  1. Check Battery Cables: Ensure that all battery cables, especially the CAN communication cable, are securely connected.

  2. Verify Inverter Settings: Ensure that the inverter’s battery settings (e.g., BMS communication type) match the recommended Pylontech configuration.

  3. Disconnect and Reconnect: If the battery LEDs do not respond after the reset, disconnect the batteries for 5 minutes, then repeat the process.

  4. Check for Firmware Updates: Some issues may be related to outdated battery firmware. Verify if a firmware update is available for your battery or inverter.

  5. Consult the User Manual: If problems persist, refer to the Pylontech user manual or contact Pylontech technical support for further assistance.

By following these steps, you can effectively reset your Pylontech battery and restore normal operation. Regularly checking your system’s connections and firmware updates on the battery can help prevent future issues.
