Using Modbus Commands to Manage Inverter Settings
This guide will walk you through how to use the Modbus mask and browser extension for reading and modifying inverter and EPM settings.
Tools Overview
Modbus Mask
The Modbus mask is a tool available on our shared drive. It allows you to manually read and set settings for inverters. Ensure you are always using the most recent version of the mask.

Modbus Browser Extension
The Modbus browser extension is another tool to streamline your workflow. It lets you interact with inverters and EPMs directly via the Solis Cloud platform.
Setting Up the Modbus Browser Extension
Follow these steps to install and configure the Modbus extension:
Open your browser and click on the puzzle icon in the top-left corner.
Select Manage Extensions.
Enable Developer Mode (toggle it on).
Click on Load Unpacked.
Navigate to the shared drive:
Europe - Documents\Technical\Modbus\Paul's Modbus helper\Extension\build
Select the folder named build and click Select Folder. This will install the Modbus extension.
Pin the extension to your browser for easy access by clicking on the puzzle icon and selecting the pin icon next to the Modbus extension.
Once installed, you can use the extension to view and modify data from inverters and EPMs available in the Solis Cloud.
Using the Modbus Browser Extension
Navigate to the customer’s installation in the Solis Cloud an go on the Datalogger
Click on More and select Datalogger Control.
Open the Modbus extension by clicking on the pinned icon in your browser.
Choose the device you want to read or control.
Using the Modbus Mask
To use the Modbus mask:
Go to the shared drive:
Europe - Documents\Technical\Modbus\Paul's Modbus helper
Download and open the most recent version (currently 9.2).
Reading Data
Navigate to the datalogger of the installation you want to access.
Click on More and select Datalogger Control.
Click on Custom Command.
Use the Modbus mask to send commands in batches of 100. This means:
Read the first 100 commands.
Then read the next 100.
Repeat until all necessary data is retrieved.
Copy the command from the Modbus mask into the Solis Cloud field under Custom Commands and click Outgoing.
Paste the response from Solis Cloud into the Backmsg field in the Modbus mask.
Click Reply Converter to view the data.
Adjusting Settings
In the Modbus mask, modify the value you want to change.
Copy the updated command.
Paste it into the Solis Cloud field under Custom Commands.
Click Outgoing and use the Reply Converter in the Modbus mask to verify the updated settings.
